Amblyopia

Amblyopia (Lazy Eye)
Amblyopia, commonly known as “lazy eye,” is a vision development disorder where one eye fails to achieve normal visual acuity, even with prescription lenses. This condition typically begins during infancy and early childhood.
Causes of Amblyopia
Several factors can lead to amblyopia:
Strabismus (Misaligned Eyes): A muscle imbalance causing the eyes to cross or turn outward, leading the brain to favor one eye over the other.
Refractive Errors: Significant differences in vision between the two eyes due to conditions like nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism can result in amblyopia.
Deprivation: Obstructions such as cataracts can prevent clear images from forming in the affected eye, leading to amblyopia.
Symptoms of Amblyopia (Lazy Eye)
Identifying amblyopia can be challenging, especially in children, as they may not realize there’s an issue. Common signs include:
Poor Depth Perception: Difficulty in judging distances or the relative positions of objects.
Squinting or Shutting One Eye: A tendency to close one eye to see better or reduce double vision.
Head Tilting: Tilting the head to use the better-seeing eye more effectively.
